7th Video in "The Making Of..." Series on YouTube

Over the next week, a new video will be posted every day on the book's new YouTube channel featuring the authors, Blake Bell and Dr. Michael J. Vassallo, discussing the secrets behind "The Secret History Of Marvel Comics". It all leads up to the Official Book Release Event in New York City on the night of Saturday, October 12 at 7pm, hosted by the Society Of Illustrators (at 128 E 63rd St., between Park & Lexington Ave).

In Part 7, they discuss the surprises found when uncovering the artists who moonlighted for Martin Goodman's other publishing endeavours; strange and fascinating material by Marvel legends, Jack Kirby, Alex Schomburg, and Bill Everett.

  1. I tried posting a comment a couple of days ago, it may not have come thorugh. I am particulary interested in the Mort Walker piece(s). I know of one, a series of illustrations he did for an article in Brief. Two things are interesting about this piece. Unless the magazine was prepared a long long time before the actual publication, Mort Walker was already working on the newspaper strip Beetle Bailey and had even started doing the Sunday. He sold some more cartoons at that time, but those could all have been cartoons he had already made years before that (he had a very low sale rate compared to his production) or even sold cartoons that were hold back longer. Also, in all of his career he never did illustrations except this one. That he was doing the rounds as late as this is remarkable.
